Born in 1996 in Grande Prairie, Amy experienced her first climb at age seven, when she scrambled up a tiny porta-wall in West Edmonton Mall. She went on to join the YMCA climbing club and the development team at the Calgary Climbing Centre, where she's been climbing ever since.
As a member of the competitive climbing team, Amy's finished on the podium at national and regional events, and has travelled to international competitions in Austria, Thailand and Singapore. She climbs for the sense of community. Her coaches and teammates inspire her, motivate her, and always make her laugh. And she thinks comps are a blast because everyone knows everyone.
To round out her climbing experience, Amy plans to focus more on outdoor redpoints and sending some stuff that's right at - or maybe past - her limit.
My ancient MEC backpack has accompanied me to my first day of kindergarten, family hikes, and camping trips. It's the bag I've used since I started climbing. It's ripped and torn in more than a few places, and one of the straps is broken from overuse - but man, that bag is full of soul."
