Manufacturing

What Matters And Why

Our Goal:

Improve the lives of workers in MEC-brand contract factories and exert influence on our other suppliers/brand partners to do the same in their supply chains.

Our members want us to provide gear that has excellent value, is in stock, and is made in an ethical way. This isn't easy. Social compliance is a major manufacturing issue, involving complex social, economic, and environmental conditions. We aim to select and work with factories that demonstrate responsible business and labour practices, and we believe that supporting good practices is part of a broader human rights solution.

How We Do It

Our Social Compliance Program works to improve the human condition in factories we contract with (we don't own or operate any factories ourselves). To do this, we monitor our factories, develop corrective action plans, collaborate with other brands and factories, train managers and workers to understand their rights, and disclose social compliance performance and material information. We're participants of the Fair Labor Association (FLA), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving factory working conditions. And we subscribe to the International Labour Organization (ILO) covenants.
