MEC Edmonton

Our Edmonton store opened in 1998 in a refurbished Safeway store. Converting an existing building saved construction materials and embodied energy. The store has become part of a revitalized shopping district in the neighbourhood of Old Glenora.

Bike

You can reach the store by bike. There are bike racks and we have several locks you can borrow free of charge.

Public Transit

Take the LRT to Corona or Central Station. Board the #1, 5, 120, or 135 Westbound to the intersection of 124 Street and 102 Avenue.

The Edmonton Transit System has bus schedules, route maps, and fare information

Parking

Pay parking is available on the east side of the store. We have preferred parking set aside for hybrid vehicles and car co-ops.

We offer a range of camping gear, canoes, kayaks, climbing gear, and snowsports gear. For more information please call the store at 780.488.6614.

Apply for support

Educational Outreach

We offer free presentations and informational store tours to interested student groups, outdoor organizations, environmental organizations, or business. We can arrange to come to your classroom or meeting if you can't make it down here. Topics range from backpacking tips, dressing for the cold, avalanche safety, and our sustainability program. We can customize presentations or tours to fit your needs. If you're interested please contact Karly Coleman at kcoleman@@mec.ca for more details.

Display Space

If you belong to a not-for-profit organization that has similar values to MEC, and you need a way to reach out to the local outdoor community, you can book in-store space.We also have a community board for local event information, educational courses, gear swap info and outdoor adventure and travel information brochures. Repair Information

The store offers a repair service for items such as packs and jackets. Maximize the life of your stuff by having it fixed, and limit waste and the use of dwindling natural resources.


Recycling

The Edmonton store is a city depot for clean cardboard, glass, paper, and plastics. A bin from Canadian Diabetes Association is available next to the depot, to deposit used clothing.

Batteries

Recycle

We recycle AA/AAA batteries bought at our store. You can drop them off at our Member Service Desk and we'll take care of them, but please don't bring any that are broken or corroded.

Fuel Canisters

MEC Edmonton recycles butane-propane canisters such as those from Primus, MSR, Brunton and Snowpeak. We cannot recycle propane cylinders. Please bring your empty canisters to the Member Service Desk.
