MEC Edmonton Store
Our Edmonton store opened in 1998 in a refurbished Safeway store. Converting an existing building saved construction materials and embodied energy. DirectionsClick the map to find driving directions.BikeYou can reach the store by bike. There are bike racks and we have several locks you can borrow free of charge. Check out Edmonton Bike Paths Public TransitTake the LRT to Corona or Central Station. Board the #1, 5, 120, or 135 Westbound to the intersection of 124 Street and 102 Avenue. The Edmonton Transit System has bus schedules, route maps, and fare information ParkingPay parking is available on the east side of the store. We have preferred parking set aside for hybrid vehicles and car co-ops. Store ServicesGear RentalsWe offer a range of camping gear, canoes, kayaks, climbing gear, and snowsports gear. Our purpose is to support people in achieving the benefit of wilderness-oriented recreation. Part of our vision is to inspire action for a healthy planet. We seek to support organizations with similar goals through our Community Contributions programs. See our Community Contributions programs for details. Educational OutreachWe offer free presentations and informational store tours to interested student groups, outdoor organizations, environmental organizations, or business. We can arrange to come to your classroom or meeting if you can't make it down here. Topics range from backpacking tips, dressing for the cold, avalanche safety, and our sustainability program. Display SpaceIf you belong to a not-for-profit organization that has similar values to MEC, and you need a way to reach out to the local outdoor community, you can book in-store space.We also have a community board for local event information, educational courses, gear swap info and outdoor adventure and travel information brochures. Maximize the life of your stuff by having it fixed, and limit waste and the use of dwindling natural resources. RecyclingThe Edmonton store is a city depot for clean cardboard, glass, paper, and plastics. A bin from Canadian Diabetes Association is available next to the depot, to deposit used clothing. Batteries
We recycle AA/AAA batteries bought at our store. You can drop them off at our Member Service Desk and we'll take care of them, but please don't bring any that are broken or corroded. Read about recycling batteries Fuel CanistersMEC Edmonton recycles butane-propane canisters such as those from Primus, MSR, Brunton and Snowpeak. We cannot recycle propane cylinders. Please bring your empty canisters to the Member Service Desk. |
