Grants and SupportMEC is a member-owned co-operative striving for social and environmental leadership. Our purpose is to support people in achieving the benefit of wilderness-oriented recreation. Part of our vision is to inspire action for a healthy planet. We seek to support organizations with similar goals through our Community Contributions programs. See our Community Contributions programs for details. Community DonationsEvery month we donate MEC product and gift cards to enable grassroots conservation or access groups to raise funds or reward volunteers. We support non-profit groups with a mandate related to conservation, environmental education, outdoor access and participation in self-propelled wilderness recreation. Due to the volume of requests, we will not respond to all applications. To find out how MEC can help your group, contact Christine Krochak at ckrochak@mec.ca or 902.421.2667. Display SpaceFor local outdoor clubs and environmental non-profits, in-store display space can be booked by contacting Christine Krochak. We also have a self-serve community board for local event information, educational courses, gear swap info, and outdoor adventure and travel information brochures. The Halifax store welcomes proposals of creative ways that MEC can support the efforts of like-minded non-profit groups. Pick up a display criteria sheet at the Member Service Desk, or contact Christine Krochak with your request. Seminars and Store ToursIs your group interested in learning about outdoor gear, trip planning, corporate responsibility or environmental sustainability practices? We do customized lectures and tours of our store. If your organization encourages self-propelled activities or wilderness access and conservation and would be interested in promoting your organization's activities to our membership please call 902.421.2667. Member Service SurveysComplete a survey at Member Service Desk and you'll be entered in a draw for a $50 gift card. You must be a member to enter the draw. Halifax Store 100% BiofuelTo further minimize our environmental impact, we have converted to 100% biofuel to heat the Halifax store. The switch results in a 78% reduction in CO2 emissions. MEC is the first major retailer in Nova Scotia to use biofuel. For close to a decade we've been "greening" our buildings by making design, materials, and construction decisions based on environmental considerations. For safety, please cover the battery terminals with a piece of tape before putting them in the recycling bins.
