Store Services

Gear Rentals

We rent a full selection of sleeping bags, pads, and tents throughout the year, canoes and kayaks (tripping, whitewater, and recreational) in the spring, summer, and fall, and skis and snowshoes in the winter. We also rent kids' gear (child carriers, child transporters, and baby gliders) and bear-resistant canisters for use in bear territory. These canisters are mandatory in the Adirondack Mountains of New York and are recommended in Algonquin Park. For more information, please call the store.

Please be aware that MEC Montreal offers a different selection and prices of rental gear compared to our other MEC stores.

Recycling

Batteries

Recycle

We will recycle batteries that were bought at our store. You can drop them off at our Member Service Desk and we'll take care of them, but please don't bring any that are broken or corroded. Other types of batteries can be dropped off at your local Éco-centre. [French-only Website].

Fuel Canisters

MEC Montreal recycles butane-propane canisters such as those from Brunton, MSR, Primus, Camping Gaz, and Snowpeak. Please bring your empty canisters to the Member Services Desk and we will send them to a Montreal area Éco-Centre. Sorry, we cannot recycle propane cylinders.

Climbing Ropes

Is your climbing rope no longer safe to use? If your rope has given you years of service and is showing signs of wear, you can give it new life.

Bring your rope into the store and we'll send it to Leigh Textile Inc. for recycling. Located in East-end Montreal, this company has been recycling various types of textile fibres since the 1920s. After it's been finely shredded, your faithful rope will be resurrected as acoustic insulation, padding for cars, or some other type of padding or stuffing.
