Patagonia W Circuit trek packing list

A full breakdown of what to pack for the hiking the Patagonia W Circuit with MEC Adventures. Remember to come prepared for your time in the evenings eating and relaxing, too.

Travel essentials

Make sure to bring these documents and must-haves:

  • Passport (should be valid for at least six months from start of trip, with photocopies)
  • Travel visa (for all countries visited that require them, with photocopies)
  • Vaccination certificates (with photocopies)
  • Airline tickets (printouts of e-tickets may be required at the border)
  • Sufficient medical and travel insurance (with photocopies)
  • Critical medication
  • Credit and debit cards
  • The local currency in various denominations
  • Itinerary, ticket and reservation info

Luggage and organization

When it comes to packing, we recommend using a backpack – it will be the most convenient option. If you’d prefer a suitcase, go with a medium-sized one. You’ll also definitely want to bring a daypack to make sure you have all your everyday essentials handy. Space is limited on transportation, so there’s a limit of one main piece of luggage per traveller. You’ll also be responsible for carrying your own luggage, so make sure you’re comfortable with your set-up.

Note: All other camping equipment is provided and included. Porters will carry 2.5kg of your personal gear for you on the hike. You’ll only be responsible for carrying your daypack with what you’ll need for the day as you hike. The remainder of your luggage will be stored for you at the hotels in Puerto Natales.

A number of items are available for rent when you arrive, and there are weight considerations for the trek. See the trip details page for all of this information.

Clothing

You’ll want to bring clothing layers – base-layers, mid-layers and outer layers – so you can adapt to the conditions (learn how to layer to stay warm). Choose quick-drying synthetic or merino wool clothing that’s lightweight, breathable and wicks moisture. Leave the cotton at home.
