When riding in Zwift, the included Click v.2 shifters lets you virtually shift gears. If you aren’t a Zwift user, you can still do Erg workouts with apps like TrainerRoad, but the trainer will be matching the resistance to the workout, you will not be able to shift virtual gears. ANT+ is standard and will work with any ANT+ compatible device. Bluetooth communication, while not standard for bike trainers, works with many software packages and devices.

Power, cadence and speed are helpful for training sessions. This data can be transmitted to apps or software to create virtual rides or to pace yourself when training.

Virtual rides and device-controlled training require wireless communication. ANT+ FE-C is a device independent standard. Bluetooth protocol is not standardized, but will communicate with smartphones and tablets without an ANT+ adapter.

If an external source is required, your trainer needs to be plugged into an outlet, or if unplugged, will have a reduced number of features.

Zwift certified trainers can have their resistance controlled by the software for a realistic experience.
