How to choose a backpacking pack

To find the right pack for you, think about the length of most backpacking trips you’re planning to take. For weekend trips, choose an overnight pack that holds 35L to 55L. Larger multi-day packs (55L to 75L) hold the additional food and clothing you’ll need for longer trips.

Next, measure your torso and check the pack’s size guide. A well-fitting backpack should feel like an extension of your body. Since 1993, Osprey has designed women’s specific packs to fit hikers with narrower frames, shorter torsos and curves at their chests and hips. It’s a good idea to try on a few types of packs to see which one fits your body best.
