Start the day off right

Let’s talk breakfast. Not sure if you’ve noticed, but it’s got a bit of a reputation. You might know it to be the most important meal of the day, and we’re inclined to agree. So don’t skimp out — toss a few tasty breakfast options in your pack for your next big hiking or backpacking trip.

Wholesome eats for outdoor retreats

Hanging out in the backcountry doesn’t mean you have to miss out on a healthy, well-rounded breakfast. Granola, dehydrated fruit, oatmeal and scrambled eggs all make regular appearances on the menus of backpacking food staples like Happy Yak, Backpacker’s Pantry and AlpineAire. Fire up your camp stove and soon enough you’ll be whipping up fine breakfast meals that are (almost) as good as they are at home.

Part of a balanced diet

A good breakfast should be hearty and filling, but it won’t keep you going all day. Take a look at camping food and meals that’ll help you fuel up when lunch and dinner roll around. For a pick-me-up when you’re on the trail and craving something to tie you over, having a few sweet and savoury snacks around is never a bad idea.

If you need some guidance on prepping food for a backpacking trip, we’ve got a guide to backpacking food and meal planning so you can be confident that there’s enough to go around. With that, you’re ready to head out and explore. (But make sure you eat a good breakfast first).
