Like walking, but way more fun
Whether you’re exploring local trails or forging your own, snowshoeing is your ticket to make the most of winter. MSR snowshoes are built for efficient travel, so you can focus on the view.
Strong frames and steel crampons bite into steep or icy trails for traction. Glove-friendly bindings adjust to fit a range of boots. And MSR snowshoes for kids are just as tough as the adult versions, so everyone can take a turn breaking trail.
How to choose snowshoes
First, think about the type of terrain you’ll explore. All MSR snowshoes can handle flat trails. If you plan to tackle more challenging routes, snowshoes with heel lifts give your calves a break on climbs.
Next, consider your fully loaded weight – how much the snowshoes will carry, including your body weight plus the weight of your pack, gear and snacks. Longer snowshoes can carry heavier loads.

Essential gear for snowshoeing
The secret to having fun snowshoeing is to dress in layers, so you stay warm and comfortable without getting sweaty – which can quickly make you cold.
Warm winter boots are great for snowshoeing on flat trails, but regular hiking boots or supportive winter hiking boots are better for steeper or more challenging terrain. Gaiters keep powder from falling into your boots, while hiking poles can help you keep your balance.
