If you purchased a Petzl Pirana Descender sold after July 2019. We have recently been notified of a recall of this product due to the possibility of a rope becoming blocked in the blocking slot. This could result in the user being unable to remove the rope from this position, which could be dangerous, particularly if a user is descending a waterfall or in a pool of water.
Petzl asks that you stop using your Pirana Descender immediately until you can determine if your descender is affected. If it is affected, you may return it for refund directly to Petzl through the link below or to any MEC location.
Please note: Only Pirana Descenders sold after July 2019 are affected. Earlier models have a different blocking slot and are not affected by this recall. Additional information and details to determine if your device is part of this recall can be found on Petzl’s recall page.
