Established in 1963, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is Canada’s only nationwide charity dedicated solely to the protection of Canada’s public land, ocean and freshwater, and ensures our parks and protected areas are managed to protect nature. Their vision is to protect at least half of Canada’s public land and water in a framework of reconciliation. Over the years, they’ve played a leading role in protecting over half a million square kilometres for the benefit of wildlife and people.

CPAWS has been one of MEC’s key partners since 1988, and we work with their national and regional teams to help increase protection of natural spaces where we all play. The relationship began with MEC donating to CPAWS’ conservation campaigns and has blossomed into a long-term partnership that’s resulted in many successful projects, including initiatives to help develop parklands across the country. Over the last two decades, MEC has become an important partner for CPAWS.
With MEC’s continued support, CPAWS is holding the federal government accountable for its commitments to protect 25% of Canada’s land and ocean by 2025 and 30% by 2030. Meeting these targets will help enable Canada to pursue even more ambitious conservation goals.
