Returns and exchanges

How do I make a return or exchange?

In-store

  • If you're near an MEC store, you can bring your return in person for immediate processing
  • In-store returns are free

Mail-in returns

  • Online and in-store purchases can be returned by mail, following the steps for your purchase type outlined below.
  • A flat $11 + tax return shipping fee applies to all mail-in returns (deducted from your refund).

How to mail a return

Online orders (with a MEC account)

  1. Log into your account
  2. Click Orders
  3. Select Return Items against the portion of the order you'd like to return
  4. Follow the prompts

Online orders (guest checkout)

Start your return through the guest return portal.

Items purchased in store

If mailing back an in-store purchase, send it to:

Please include a return information form.

Warranty requests: Visit a MEC store or contact Customer Care with photos and details.

International returns

  • Use insured ground shipping and mark the package as “Canadian Goods Returning”.
  • Include a return information form.
  • Avoid UPS or any carrier that may incur duties/fees.
  • Processing may take 5–10 days.
  • Warranty requests: Contact Customer Care with photos and details.

Do I need a receipt for my return?

MEC members

If you’re a member, no receipt is needed—just use your member number or the email linked to your account, and we can track your purchase history.

Non-members / guests

You’ll need the original receipt or order confirmation email.

What if I’ve removed the tags or used the item?

Items may still be covered by our Rocksolid Guarantee, but it depends on the condition of the item.

What can't be returned?

  • Worn-out items: Items that have reached the end of their practical lifespan due to normal use, accidents, or misuse cannot be returned.
  • Items past practical lifespan: MEC may refuse returns on items that are beyond their expected life, even if unused or undamaged.
  • Final sale items: Products sold as final sale cannot be returned, except when they’re defective or don’t match the description online.
  • Bear spray, food, and fuel: These are final sale.
  • Hygiene products: Face masks, socks, sanitary devices, and undergarments (including swimwear, bike chamois, and underwear) are not eligible for returns unless they are unworn, unused, and have original tags or packaging intact.
  • Electronics: Electronics (e.g., GPS, cameras, bike trainers) can be returned within 90 days of purchase.
  • E-bikes (BC Electric Bike Rebate Program): E-bikes purchased under this program cannot be returned for a refund, but can be exchanged for an equal or higher value e-bike.

Can I get a refund to a different credit card?

No. Refunds can only be issued to the same credit card used for the purchase, or via gift card or cheque.

I received a gift I don’t want. Can I get a refund?

Gift returns

We need the receipt or the purchaser’s member number to process a refund. Refunds can only be issued to the person who bought the gift.

As the recipient, you can either exchange the item or get a gift card for the purchase value.

PayPal returns

Items in resalable condition and meeting the Rocksolid Guarantee can be returned.

Refunds

  • Within 180 days: Refunds will be processed to the original PayPal account.
  • After 180 days: Refunds will be processed via MEC gift card.

In-store

PayPal returns cannot be refunded to PayPal accounts; refunds will be issued via MEC gift card.

Klarna returns

Items in resalable condition and meeting the Rocksolid Guarantee can be returned.

  • Refunds: Processed to MEC gift card or to the credit card linked to your Klarna account.

  • Note: Ensure your Klarna loan is fully paid off once you receive your refund. Use the Klarna app to manage your payments.
