Returns and exchanges

How do I make a return? 

Purchases can be returned to your local MEC store for free or mailed to our warehouse for an $11 shipping fee.

To mail a return to our warehouse: -For online orders: generate a shipping label through our online return form . You will need the email, order number and postal code from the original order.
-For in-store purchases: follow the steps set out in the “How can I mail a return without using the online return form?” section below.

Refunds can only be issued to the original payment method used for the purchase or to an MEC gift card.

How long do I have to make a return and is it free?

There is no time limit to make a return on qualifying product (except for electronics which are limited to 90-days).

Online orders can be returned for free in-store or mailed to our warehouse using our online return form for an $11 + tax shipping fee that will be deducted from your refund. Shipping fees will not be refunded.

What can I return? What can’t I return? 

Items must be in resalable condition to be returned. This means that the products are either:

  • New and unused, or
  • Clean, used infrequently, and function like new

Non-Returnable Products:

  • Worn-out items: Items that have reached the end of their practical lifespan due to normal use, accidents, or misuse cannot be returned.
  • Items past practical lifespan: MEC may refuse returns on items that are beyond their expected life, even if unused or undamaged.
  • Final sale items: Products sold as final sale cannot be returned, except when they’re defective or don’t match the description online.
  • Gift cards
  • Bear spray, food, and fuel: These are final sale.
  • Hygiene products: Face masks, socks, sanitary devices, and undergarments (including swimwear, bike chamois, and underwear) are not eligible for returns unless they are unworn, unused, and have original tags or packaging intact.
  • Electronics: Electronics (e.g., GPS, cameras, bike trainers) can be returned within 90 days of purchase.
  • E-bikes (BC Electric Bike Rebate Program): E-bikes purchased under this program cannot be returned for a refund, but can be exchanged for an equal or higher value e-bike.
  • As-is items: Items bought from gear swaps, yard sales, or rental sell-offs cannot be returned.

Do I need to have the receipt to make a return? 

If you purchased online, no receipt is required to return in-store unless you’re returning a gift (see below information for “can I return a gift?”) Simply share the email address from the original online order with an in-store staff member and they will be able to look-up your order for refund.

For in-store purchases, if you’re a member, no receipt is required to return. Simply share the email linked to your account or member number and we can track your purchase history.

If you purchased in-store as a guest or non-member, you will need to show a receipt to verify purchase as we won’t be able to find your order otherwise.

How can I mail a return without using the Online Return Form?

Be sure to include a return information form in the package.

A returns shipping label can be generated on the Canada Post website using their return label form or use the carrier of your choice.

What if I’m returning an oversized product? 

The easiest way to return an oversized item is to visit your nearest MEC store.

If a store visit isn’t convenient, you can arrange a return shipment directly with a courier to the address below. MEC will not cover the cost of return shipping.

If you received the wrong item or have experienced an issue with your oversized order, contact our Customer Care. You may qualify for a free Purolator pick-up.

How long does it take to receive a refund? 

For in-store returns, your refund will be issued immediately.

For returns mailed to our warehouse, your order will be refunded within 7 days of receipt. Note that some financial institutions may take an additional 7-10 business days for the credit to appear on your card.

We encourage you to visit a local store to complete your return to avoid delay.

Do you offer exchanges? 

We do not offer exchanges. If you would like a different size or color, you will need to return the original item(s) and place a new order.

Can I return a gift? 

Yes. For in-store returns you will need a receipt or the original purchaser’s member number so we can verify the purchase and process a refund. Refunds can only be issued to the person who bought the gift. As the recipient, you can get a gift card for the purchase value.

For online returns, you will need the email, order number and postal code from the original order. The refund will be issued to the person who originally purchased the gift.

My company or group placed a bulk order with MEC. Can we return it? 

Corporate and group sales (CGS) orders cannot be returned unless deemed returnable under the manufacturer’s warranty. Get in touch with your CGS representative to learn more.

What are my refund options if I paid for my order with PayPal or Klarna? 

For orders originally paid with PayPal, you will be refunded to the original PayPal account. If your return is processed more than 180 days after the original payment, you will be refunded to a MEC gift card. This applies to both mailed in returns and in-store returns.

For orders originally paid with Klarna, if you mail in your return, you will be refunded to your Klarna account. If you return an item in-store, you will have the option of a refund to the credit card linked to your Klarna account or a MEC gift card.

Can I make a return from an address outside of Canada? 

Yes. You can mail your item(s) via insured ground shipping and mark the package as “Canadian Goods Returning”. Be sure to include a return information form. We recommend avoiding UPS or any carrier that may incur duties or fees.

For warranty requests, contact Customer Care with photos and details before sending in the item.
