Want to try a new activity without breaking the bank? Don’t know which kayak to buy and want to test one out? Most of our stores have rental gear on hand to suit the season. We have a wide variety of equipment to rent, but selection varies by store. Visit a store page to see what’s available and complete an online reservation to secure your gear.
We’re taking precautionary steps due to COVID-19, so we’re pausing our rental program for the moment. We take your health seriously and are looking into the best way to safely maintain our rental gear going forward. Thanks for your understanding.

Reservations, payment and ID
All rental charges must be paid for in full at the time of reservation. You can use cash, debit, Visa, MasterCard or MEC gift cards if reserving in person at a MEC store. Online reservations are by credit card only.
For liability purposes, please bring a government issued valid photo ID (driver’s license or passport) to verify your identity when you collect your rental items. Rental items can only be picked up by the person on the booking, with the matching credit card from fee payment.
Pick up and returns
You can pick up rental equipment from 3:00pm on the day before your reservation begins, and you can return the items between store opening and 1:00 pm the day after use. There is no charge for these two “half days”. For example a 3 day reservation from Tuesday to Thursday can be picked up from Monday 3:00pm and returned by Friday 1pm, and charged for 3 days only.
Some rental gear such as boats and SUPs require roof racks. Please review the product descriptions and the terms of the rental contract for complete details.
Cancellations and rescheduling
If you want to cancel your booking, and provide more than 48 hours’ notice, you will receive a full refund. If less than 48 hours is provided, you will receive a 50% refund. For example, a pick-up on Wednesday needs to be rescheduled by the end of the day on Monday.
On the day of pick up, once the reservation has started at 3pm, there will be no refunds. If you need to pick up your gear the following morning, please notify the store so that they keep your reservation.
If you want to reschedule your booking, and provide more than 48 hours’ notice, there is no fee. If less than 48 hours is provided, there is a one-day rental fee charge that will be added to your booking total charge.
Extensions to your booking can only be made subject to availability.
Security deposits on pick-up
Some rental gear may require a security deposit. This can be paid at the time of gear pick up in store. These deposits must be paid by debit/credit card only (no cash). At the time of gear return a refund will be processed to the same credit card used for processing. If a different member or different credit card is presented, the refund cannot be processed. Damage and/or late fees will be processed separately.
Late, damaged, or lost gear
Late returns will be charged double the daily rental rate for each day late. Returns received after 1pm on the day of return are considered late.
You are responsible for returning all rental equipment in clean, dry, working condition. If the equipment you return is damaged, needs repair or requires cleaning, you’ll be responsible for those costs. Rates for cleaning and repair are $40 per hour with a $20 minimum, plus the cost of parts and materials needed. You will be charged the full retail value for lost, stolen or destroyed rental equipment.
