KEY POINTS & INTENDED USE

With the Orion Ridley takes what they have learnt from being at the forefront

of carbon bike technology and brings it to a much more accessible price point.

The Ridley uses 24 ton high modulus carbon fibre in in a unidirectional layup

to create the Orion's frame. Higher ton rated carbon = stronger carbon,

stronger carbon = stiffer and lighter frames. Also, the unidirectional layup

increases rigidity and stiffness. The Orion's frame has an oversized downtube

to help maximize steering precision and bottom bracket stiffness, and a

reinforced bottom bracket shell for optimal frame stiffness. At the back of the

frame the Orion has a rear "mono stay" that has been engineered to comfort

enhancing vertical compliance and lateral stiffness.

****Page Down****

There are flat sections on the chainstays, what Ridley calls "flex areas" that

further help with the dissipation of vibration and to add comfort without

effecting stiffness. Even though the Orion is Ridley's entry into the world of

carbon road and race bikes, it is obvious that Ridley has taken all they have

learnt from the top tier frames and crammed as much as the budget allowed into

the Orion to make a lightweight, stiff, and strong frame.

The Orion C10 uses Shimano's venerable 105 groupset. Shimano's 105 components

are known for the reliability, durability, great performance. Velocity control

is handled by Tektro caliper brakes. The Orion C10's power gets to the road

through 4ZA's RC 30 wheel set. The 4ZA RC 30's use Shimano 3500 (Sora) series

hubs and has 28 radial laced spokes up front and 28 cross laced out back. *PD*

The RC 30 are excellent value and great performers. The C10 is a perfect

gateway bike: it has a great frame, a good groupset, and nice wheels. Note -

The Orion's 24 ton carbon frame is compatible with mechanical groupsets only.

The Orion offers a great glimpse at what a high end carbon road bike has to

offer.

Ridley is a name that has long been associated with winning teams in the

professional cycling world. All of Ridley's publically available bikes have

been developed using key features born on true world class race bikes. Ridley

develops their frames from the ground up, from aerodynamic testing, to making

their own molds for the raw carbon frames.
