No such thing as bad weather with women’s jackets at MEC

When it comes to outdoor adventures, having a good, high-quality women’s jacket is a must-have. Whether it’s for mountain hikes, woodland camping or simply your walk to work, a well-designed women’s outdoor jacket provides the perfect comfort and protection against the unpredictable outdoors. At MEC, you can find women’s insulated jackets, rain jackets, fleece, soft shells, parkas, winter coats and so much more from epic brands like MEC Label, Arc’teryx, Patagonia and so much more.

The right way to layer

If you’re not sure how to layer for outdoor activities, there are a few important things to know, especially when it comes to women’s jackets. Also known as mid-layers, they add insulation and trap body heat to keep you warm, all while continuing to move moisture outward. Materials that are fuzzy like fleece are a good choice because they insulate without feeling bulky. And they are highly air permeable so warm, moist air can easily pass through them. Gridded fleece and high-loft fleece trap warm air without adding bulk. Other mid-layer options are lightweight, low-profile insulated pieces – they can weigh less and compress nicely in your pack while still being warm. Mid-layers should be roomy enough to accommodate a base layer and allow movement but should still be somewhat snug.

Consider the weather

Before you choose your mid-layer jacket, first think about what activity you’re wanting to tackle. Aiming for a big snowshoe trek on cold mountain trails? Or looking for a laidback day of spring skiing? The jackets or mid-layers you choose will depend on factors like temperature, whether you’re facing rain or snow, and your physical output.

Women’s down jackets

Down is measured by fill-power, which helps indicate the quality of the down plumage. The higher the number, the higher the insulation and loftiness of the clothing. A higher fill-power means less down needed for the same warmth rating (not to be confused with down weight, which is how much down is used). The down in MEC Label jackets is sourced with the Responsible Down Standard. Since down requires a bit more care when washing, make sure you properly know how to clean your down jacket to make it last.
