Alpha UL 1-Person Tent
Single wall simplicity with double wall condensation control and adaptable configuration to keep weight as low as 565g.
The 2Kilo Project began with a simple challenge: build a fully functional, ultralight camp system weighing less than two kilograms. The result? Our lightest camp gear ever. Designed in Vancouver, Canada for fastpackers, bikepackers and hikers looking to cut weight from their kit.

“Each product needed full standalone performance. We identified where components naturally overlapped to reduce weight in smarter ways without sacrificing durability, comfort or performance.”
Mark Knight, Director Product Creation
A sleeping bag built with material developed by Nasa. Carbon fibre tent poles created with camera tripod manufacturers to get weight down to just 89g. We wanted to build something different, which meant going outside the outdoor industry for inspiration.
We worked closely with our mills to use quiet, comfortable fabrics, balance weight and space parameters and overall create a system that is enjoyable to use. Go ahead, pack your whole toothbrush.
With a complete system weight under 2kg acting as a guardrail, our in-house design team was able to see where it was possible to maximize weight savings in each standalone product.
From the lightest tent peg on earth to an ultralight backpack that’s changed the way we design packs, MEC’s Director of Product Creation takes us through the 2Kilo Project camp system.
Join us at select stores on April 16 for an evening of product demos, ultralight education and gear giveaways. Spaces are limited and advanced registration is required so reserve your spot today.
“What’s incredible is they haven’t trimmed on the features, it’s still incredibly practical, useful and enjoyable to use – it's very quickly won me over.”
Nollaig Butler, MEC Member, camper and hiker
