On running shoes for training and off-road trails

On Swiss-engineered shoes deliver cushioned landings and powerful strides. At the heart of every On running shoe is CloudTec® technology, a patented cushioning system featuring hollow pods made of responsive EVA foam. The pods compress on landing, dispersing pressure and impact across your foot, then rebound for an explosive take-off. The Speedboard® layer in the midsole adds stability and flex to propel you forward.

Why On shoes are so popular with runners

On shoes are designed for runners, by runners. In 2010, retired Ironman athlete Oliver Bernhard wanted a training shoe that felt totally different. His innovative “pod” cushioning system delivered soft landings and powerful take offs that quickly found favour with triathletes, recreational runners and racers training for 10K, half and full marathon distances. Many athletes feel that their designs strike the perfect balance between cushioning and support. Popular models available in Canada include the On Cloud series for paved routes and the ultra-cushioned Cloudmonster for running, walking or extended periods of standing.

On trail running shoes offer grip for slick or loose surfaces and hill training. Waterproof options keep your feet dry and add extra traction for crossing streams and keeping your footing on wet and muddy terrain.

On running shoe fit and sizing

Known for a relatively wide toebox, On shoes allow your toes to splay and your forefoot to roll easily through the strike and push off phase of each stride. While every runner’s foot and gait is different, most MEC members opt for their regular shoe size, or they size up by half a size. The elastic “speed lace” system on many models provides a flexible fit that distributes pressure across your midfoot – and lets you slip the shoes on and off quickly. If you’re accustomed to traditional lace systems, it may feel snug at first. You can retie the knots at the ends to adjust the elastic for a looser or tighter fit.

More sustainable shoe technology

At its lab in Zurich, On continues to redefine how shoes are made – while reducing their environmental impact. The company prioritizes recycled materials and is developing renewable materials that reduce the reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and improve water and energy efficiency.
