GRAYL utilize three core technologies in its Travel Purifier. The three are:

1. Non-woven ceramic with an electropositive mesh that captures impurities like bacteria, protozoa and virus

2. Ultra-powdered activated carbon - odor, flavor, certain heavy metals and chemicals

3. Anti-microbial elements to the filter stays fresh between uses

The technology sets Grayl apart is #1. To explain why, let me explain what Grayl’s filtration is not.

The first filter you ever used may well have been a non-woven ceramic (NWC) filter. They have been around for a while. To filter out bacteria and protozoa, ordinary (old) NWC filters use 'size exclusion' - which is the same principle your screen windows use to keep out bugs - the holes are smaller than the bugs. The downside of that is that water doesn't like moving through tiny holes, so you need a high pressure to push the water through. And ordinary NWC generally can't get small enough to filter viruses. GRAYL's NWC uses a much larger pore size (water flows fast) and fills the pores with many layers of an electropositive mesh – like a net of tiny magnets - that grab onto pathogens that make you sick. As a result, GRAYL removes more from the water, faster than any other filter on the market.

Shelf life: Stored under proper conditions, an unopened Purifier Cartridge has a shelf life of 10 years. After a cartridge has been used, it lasts at least three additional years.

Active technology: Electroadsorption, ultra-powdered activated carbon and silver treated zeolites. Unlike standard mechanical filtration, the Ultralight Purifier Bottle is powered by a patented electroadsorptive media capable of removing submicron pathogens and inorganic contaminants. With [ONE PRESS], electroadhesion and ion exchange create a powerful submicron trap for pathogens (viruses, bacteria and protozoan cysts). Additionally, the purifier media contains many embedded layers of ultra-powdered activated carbon which create a large surface area for removing toxins like chemicals and heavy metals. Silver treated zeolites, a natural antimicrobial, inhibit growth and keeps the purifier fresh between uses.
