About ORTLIEB

ORTLIEB began as a one-man operation in Germany, with founder Harmut handcrafting his own prototype of a waterproof pannier with scrap tarp at his mother’s sewing machine. Word spread quickly among friends and community, and in 1982 – just a year after he’d started – he founded ORTLIEB and began to expand the business. Constant innovation was his focus, always looking for more effective ways to keep gear dry, and this led to a number of innovations for which ORTLIEB is now known worldwide.

Protection from the elements

Since its beginnings, the core of ORTLIEB has been their waterproof bags. Outfitting you and your bike for the worst of what the weather has to offer continues to be their primary focus, and this is plain to see in their selection of bike panniers. This claim to fame isn’t their only option, though. ORTLIEB also offers options like handlebar and frame bags for your bike, or even bike seat bags for that extra little bit of storage. All their bags are made with the same commitment to quality and durability so you know they’ll last.

Environmental responsibility

ORTLIEB products are proudly made in Germany, with 90% of their processes taking place in house and 70% of their materials locally sourced. With this level of control, they’ve been working towards mitigating their carbon footprint wherever possible through frequent audits and ensuring they adhere to Germany’s high social and environmental standards.
