Uses MEC's new Cross Wind back system: X shaped 4mm steel wire frame is under tension to create separation between the pack and your back (trampoline style backpanel). Part closest to your back has airmesh, then there is a big airspace, then the bacpack. Frame is held in place by a Hypalon patch and a central 3mm aluminum cross bar. Curve of the back system is not so huge that the pack becomes hard to pack (like some older Deuters)
Backpanel also has thin plastic board for structure
This women's version is designed specifically for women with a shorter back length. Uses MEC's new women's specific shoulder straps that are more flared out to the side, are shorter and are set closer to together. Also uses MEC's new women's specific hip padds that flare upwards a bit more. ACCESS
