Inspired by the 1992 MEC St. Elias Parka, the APEX St. Elias is built to meet the demands of the most extreme conditions from Patagonia to it's namesake peak in Alaska, and everywhere in between. The shell combines two types of Pertex fabric, mapped to provide wind and water protection where you need it. Built to be our warmest and most packable backcountry parka, thanks to the 800-fill down in the torso, hood and sleeves, and synthetic insulation in areas where you risk building up moisture. Waterproof garments use waterproof-breathable technologies and are fully seam-taped. Water-resistant garments use waterproof-breathable technologies but their seams are not taped. Water-resistant garments repel water and protect against wind but are not made of waterproof fabric.

A windproof garment does not allow any air to permeate the fabric.  A garment with windproof panels has panels of fabric that are totally windproof, but the rest of the garment may not be windproof.  A wind-resistant garment resists some wind, but not as much as a garment that is windproof.
