Low-profile synthetic insulated jackets shine as part of a layering system and on their own in milder temperatures. Designs with more insulation work well for colder temps or mellower activities.

Synthetic vs. down insulation

While both types of insulation will keep you toasty, they have different strengths.

Unlike down, synthetic insulation keeps you warm even if it gets wet. This makes it a great choice for wet or humid environments and high-output activities like hiking or backcountry skiing. Synthetic jackets also dry quickly, are easy to care for, and tend to be more affordable than down jackets.
