Repairs and recycling

ReSurf
MEC Nanaimo has a ReSurf recycling station for your old wetsuit!
MEC Members can bring in their old wetsuits to our Member Service Desk and receive a $20 voucher towards a new suit from MEC. Any brand accepted. Surf wetsuits only (4/3mm neoprene minimum), no accessories. Must be dry and clean.
Recycling
If you bought any of the items below at MEC, you can bring them back to our store for recycling:
- Household batteries (no broken or corroded ones please)
- Bicycle tires and tubes
- Climbing rope – it could become dog leashes, acoustic insulation or stuffing
Due to safety concerns, we do not accept used flammable goods, including camping gas canisters, stove fuel, flares, bear bangers and bear spray. Please contact your local waste management office to find out how to properly dispose of these items.

Climbing wall
MEC wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for climbing – it was the reason we started in 1971. So incorporating climbing into a flagship store was an absolute must. Solution? Build a bouldering cave.
Stop by and use our 580-square-foot bouldering cave to test out a new pair of climbing shoes or bring your own to do some crushing.
Available for use by local climbing clubs and community groups. Connect with our store team to book or check out events happening on the wall.

Since 1987, we’ve contributed more than $48 million to Canadian outdoor recreation and conservation initiatives – and your support of MEC makes it possible. Bike shop
Our bike shop mechanics can do it all, from installing fenders to building wheels from scratch. We offer a full range of repair services, including minor adjustments and repairs, component upgrades, suspension work, tune-ups and major overhauls.
