Some members have informed us that these helmets are difficult to adjust and pose a safety risk as a result. In some cases, the hook-and-loop (Velcro®) tabs peeled off the helmet, which left the fit ring partially or fully detached.
If you’re having difficulty adjusting this helmet or if you experienced the hook-and-loop tab defect above, please stop using it and follow the instructions below to receive a credit or full refund.
For a credit or refund, please return the helmet to your nearest MEC store. If you’d like to obtain a credit by email, we ask that you send us proof that the helmet is no longer useable. Simply cut off the helmet straps to make it unusable and email info@mec.ca with a photo of the unusable helmet. We’ll send you an MEC e-gift card valued at $17 (the original price), plus any taxes you paid on the purchase.
Alternatively, you could send us the helmet strap and receive the MEC gift card by mail. Please mail the strap along with your name and a daytime phone number to:

If you prefer to receive your refund by cheque, please let us know when you email or mail us, and ensure that MEC has your correct mailing information.
Although the Speed helmet is no longer available, several other styles of kids’ cycling helmets are available at MEC. One of them may be suitable for your child.
