Black Diamond Camalots, Camalot Ultralights, and Index ascenders, specific models

Certain models of Black Diamond Camalots, Camalot Ultralights, or Index Ascenders are subject to a manufacturer’s voluntary recall.

According to Black Diamond, the recall is because “some units may have been improperly assembled and may fail during use.” Although no accidents have been reported, Black Diamond requests that you stop using your Camalots, Camalot Ultralights, and Index Ascenders and carefully inspect them to determine if they are defective.

This recall and inspection is for:

  • All sizes of Black Diamond Camalots produced between May 18, 2015 and March 9, 2016, with manufacturing codes between 5133 and 6067.
  • All sizes of Black Diamond Camalot Ultralights produced between November 10, 2015 and March 4, 2016, with manufacturing codes between 5309 and 6061.
  • Both the right and left versions of the Black Diamond Index Ascenders produced between December 22, 2014 and February 25, 2016, with manufacturing codes between 4356 and 6015.

For instructions about how to inspect your equipment, information on affected styles, and details on how to return defective Camalots, Camalot Ultralights, and Index Ascenders, visit the Black Diamond safety recall page.
